For its part, Bankia reinforces with this initiative the will to maintain its collaboration with the Universities of Murcia and the Polytechnic of Cartagena, thus maintaining its commitment to the Region of Murcia and family businesses. In 2006 the Family Business Chair at the University of Murcia was created which, in 2013, became the first interuniversity in the Region thanks to the incorporation of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, and since then it has been called the 'Mare Family Business Chair Nostrum University of Murcia - Polytechnic University of Cartagena '. A business sector with great weight in the Region The interuniversity nature of the Chair directed by Ángel Meroño facilitates the implementation of joint training and research initiatives for students and companies in the Region of Murcia. Since its creation, the Chair has had as its objectives the analysis, research and teaching of the reality and perspectives of the family business, taking care of developing training programs and research activities that contribute to improving the knowledge of this important business sector, which represents 92% of the business fabric of the Region, the second highest percentage by autonomous communities of the country.

In addition, regional family businesses generate 85% of private employment. The ultimate purpose of the Chair is to know the particularities of family businesses in order to identify their needs and help them exploit their unique characteristics.

To this end, it develops initiatives such as the Family Business Barometer, a biannual report on the contribution of this sector in the creation of wealth and employment, training courses for university students and quarterly business meetings that bring together entrepreneurs, academics and experts in the field.
