The Totana City Council wants to promote awareness campaigns during the celebration of the holidays, festivals and other festive or leisure events to reduce plastic bags, wrappers and cups. In fact, it was approved by the plenary session, at the request of the Municipal Socialist Group, in order that, in addition, it is regulated that reusable glasses are used in the festive celebrations organized or promoted by the Totanero Consistory, significantly reducing the volume of glasses that can be used in this type of event. Environmental awareness in Spain has been increasing progressively in recent years due to the consequences of the real threat of climate change, in parallel with the modernization process of our society. The year 2030 is the deadline, according to the UN's Intergovernmental Paper on Climate Change, to implement far-reaching international changes that will limit the average rise in global temperature to 1.5 degrees. This challenge is of such transcendence and magnitude that it requires the involvement of all administrations, each within its competence framework or its possibilities of action, as well as the entire citizenry. At the local level, the local Administration can promote gestures by considering the state of the places where festive activities are held, streets and squares, full of wrappers and plastic cups, in celebrations such as the Day Fair, the Week Holy Carnival or the pilgrimages.
