TOTANA ACTION statement regarding the coronavirus pandemic and its impact on our municipality

The effects of the battery of measures taken by the National Government - somewhat late in our understanding - for the fight against the coronavirus "will not be seen until in about 9-10 days."

He declared in his daily appearance with visible face of skepticism the director of the Center for Health Alerts and Emergencies, Fernando Simón and that "in the best case we will stop seeing transmission in two months" with a visibly more confident face.

He has also talked about the worst case scenario, "about four to five months" and acknowledged that "we are in a very different situation than a few days ago."

Already more than 2,180 positive in coronavirus are counted in all Spain that do not stop growing exponentially and 47 deceased.

Of the positive there are 17 cases in the Region of Murcia today, the majority of those affected in our Region are from the municipality of Murcia, one case in the Port of Mazarrón and two others linked to Totana.

To avoid that from all these cases local transmission of the virus can occur in the Region, the Epidemiology service of the General Directorate of Public Health keeps another 25 people under surveillance.

Among them the 34-year-old mother and her baby who are residents in Madrid and went by bus to Totana last weekend and of whom Public Health is tracing contacts.

Epidemiologists have already contacted the bus company and yesterday, they were trying to determine which passengers had taken the seats closest to the patient.

The situation has reached an uncontrolled expansion of the infection in some cities and municipalities that must be stopped by all possible means and avoided in others, since this is not "a simple flu".

That is now the national priority and the municipalities should accompany with their containment measures those that are already being taken at other levels and not leave it at the discretion of each group or association, but inform them properly and ask for their collaboration without waiting to see more cases before the exceptional situation that we live in public health to be able to contain its rise and give due attention and direct information to our neighbors.

Article 25 of the LRBRL includes the specific competencies of the municipalities, indicating that they can promote all kinds of activities and provide public services that contribute to meet the needs of the neighbors.

Among these competencies is the protection of public health;

The municipalities have competence in hygiene and health and in the field of health care for water safety and epidemics, and are also competent to participate in the management of primary health care.

From Acción Totana we urge Mr. Mayor, the rest of the Municipal Corporation and Civil Protection of Totana in coordination with the law enforcement and health services of our municipality, to launch an emergency management commission as soon as possible. begin to coordinate to take all preventive measures aimed at curbing and contain as much as possible the expansion of the coronavirus in our municipality.

As could be to suspend any event or public event with great assistance from people within the municipality for a reasonable time, report cases that arise for the knowledge of all neighbors and be able to attend and advise first-hand those affected from local public institutions, enable a telephone and physical place of care within the municipality to go to for information or to provide a forecast of sufficient epidemiological material that could be needed by members of Civil Protection, health or the Local Police itself to be able to relate to others affected.

Mainly with people over 60, the population sector with the highest risk.

We are in time to do everything in our power to avoid greater evils in our municipality.

The Head of Totana Action.

Mr. Juan C. Carrillo
