The Councilor for Education, Agustín Gonzalo Martínez, will raise a motion to the ordinary plenary session in October urging the Regional Ministry of the Region of Murcia to build a third institute of Compulsory Secondary Education and Baccalaureate in the municipality of Totana.
According to the mayor's motion, the current situation of the two HEIs of Totana (Juan de la Cierva and Prado Mayor) is of a massification that causes centers that were conceived in its day for practically half of the students that are being welcoming today, they support saturation and a significant decrease in the possibilities of certain facilities (laboratories, computer rooms, workshops, etc.).
Likewise, the negative factor of this overcrowding also has an impact on the coexistence of the centers.
Currently, the IES Juan de la Cierva has 652 students between 1st and 4th of the ESO, divided into 25 groups, to which 361 students of 1st and 2nd Baccalaureate and International Baccalaureate must be added;
which means a total of 968 students.
For its part, the IES Prado Mayor has 562 students between 1st and 4th of the ESO, divided into 21 groups, to which 175 high school students are added;
which make a total of 857 students.
Therefore, and in the event that this request was attended by the Ministry of Education, the City Council would make available to the Autonomous Community some land, with sufficient reserve of equipment and the necessary extension of land -more than 10,000 square meters- , in the urbanization La Báscula.
