The Bureau of Statistics of the Council of Citizen Services of the City of Totana informs that foreign residents of 12 countries can request their registration in the electoral census until January 15 to vote in the municipal elections of May 26, 2019.
This procedure is carried out by virtue of the agreements of international reciprocity of vote in local elections that Spain maintains with foreign countries and can benefit from it the citizens of Colombia, Chile, Norway, Paraguay, Peru, New Zealand, Bolivia, Cape Verde, Korea , Iceland and Trinidad and Tobago.
The Electoral Census Office has begun to send a communication to residents of these countries in Spain to inform them of the registration period, which will be from December 1 to January 15.
The registration in the electoral census can also be done by going to the City Hall where you are registered (Statistical Bureau, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.), within the aforementioned period.
To exercise the right to vote in the municipal elections, they must be of legal age and comply with the established conditions.
These are, with the exception of the case of Norway, in possession of the residence permit in Spain and having resided legally and uninterruptedly for at least five years prior to their application for registration in the electoral census.
It must also be registered in the municipal register of your habitual residence, where you can exercise the right to vote.
In the specific case of Norway, you must have resided in Spain, legally and uninterruptedly for more than three years.
To facilitate this process, the Electoral Census Office will send by post a communication to 280,316 residents in Spain, nationals of these 12 countries, to request their registration in the electoral census.
Of the total number of communications, 262,480 correspond to foreigners who meet all the conditions of the agreement and who will receive the key so that they can register in the census online.
The remaining 17,836 foreigners must register in the electoral census by mail, providing a valid document that justifies the authorization of residence in Spain or a residence certificate issued by the Immigration and Border Commissariat, which can be obtained in any dependency police
