Regional and local authorities visited today the farms and processing and marketing facilities of the Association of Pimiento Producers of Paprika "Valle del Guadalentín" of Totana.
The regional and municipal authorities have known first hand the production and elaboration of the selected products and fruits, whose desrabado and de-blended procedure follows the artisan tradition of several generations in this municipality.
The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Miguel Ãngel del Amor, the mayor, Andrés García, the general director of Innovation, Productions and Agrifood Markets, Fulgencio Pérez, visited the farms and processing infrastructures of this high quality product.
During the visit, they were accompanied by executives from Frutas y Hortalizas, SL (Horfrusa), which has promoted this section for the production and marketing of sweet paprika;
as well as by deputies, councilors of the Municipal Corporation and representatives of agrarian union organizations.
The Region of Murcia generates 22 percent of the red pepper peppers that are produced in Spain.
This year there has been a production of 6,100 tons of this crop, the majority in the Guadalentín Valley with 85.3 percent of the crop.
Likewise, 13.9 percent was generated in the field of Cartagena and the rest in the Segura River region.
Currently, the Region has 400 hectares of crops, which places it as a benchmark for national production together with Extremadura.
The Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Miguel Angel del Amor, visited the pepper pepper farm in Totana, belonging to the Association of Pimiento Producers of the Guadalentín Valley.
During the visit, he was able to learn about the artisanal process of rootlessness, which involves manually removing the stem and seeds of each pepper.
With this visit, the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries intends to value this product and promote the unraveled shell, since "it is an artisanal product of exceptional quality for its purity and its much more intense color. that provides a very significant added value, "said the counselor.
The paprika was a great contribution to the food industry in Murcia and got the designation of origin in 2001.
