The City Council will promote the candidacy of Totana Argárica site "La Bastida" for listing as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, sponsored by the proposal submitted by the Department of Tourism to the plenary, which was today approved in full by unanimity of the political groups.
Also, through this motion, the City Council urges the Heritage Council of the Ministry of Culture to assess the case submitted by the City of Totana, upon completion of relevant studies, to nominate Argárica Reservoir of La Bastida to be listed as World Heritage by the international organization as appropriate.
The Councillor of Tourism, Maria Isabel Sánchez, pointed out that the archaeological site of La Bastida, located in the council-Carivete Las Vińas de Totana, is considered one of the most important in the so-called Culture Argárica for its scope and the importance and relevance of the pieces he found in recent years of research.
It also stressed that this site has already been declared as a Cultural and he Governing Council of the Region of Murcia because "the special significance of the site and the need to protect it."
Therefore, the mayor noted that taking into account the importance and historical significance is the deposits, it could be categorized as "works of man or the combined works of man and nature, including archaeological sites which have a outstanding universal value from the standpoint of historical, aesthetic, ethnological or anthropological value, being the description of requirements according to UNESCO criteria.
Thus, the mayor pointed out that this park brings together many of the requirements for designation as World Heritage by this prestigious organization, especially given the level of protection and conservation need for this unique asset to be enjoyed and studied by future generations.
This will create an integrated tourism offer, responsible and sustainable, seasonal and away from mass tourism, which will provide a strong support for the local economy and a new range of jobs to boost production and business sector of the municipality.
Thus, these projects, as declared by the mayor, will take on a degree of attractiveness and promotion Argaric superlative if the park of La Bastida was finally declared a World Heritage Site, a degree that only hold 41 places in Spain, of which only 3 are archaeological sites, none of which belongs to the Culture Argárica of the Bronze Age.
