The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment has requested the Totana City Council the pertinent documentation to proceed with the immediate delivery of the subsidy amounting to 60,000 euros for the restoration works of the Juan de Uzeta fountain, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest ( BIC).

In this way, this monument will be restored and recovered after various actions that have been carried out, after the totanero Consistory developed the basic and execution project for its integral rehabilitation.

This was a commitment acquired at the beginning of this term by the former president of the Autonomous Community, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, with the then mayor of Totana, Juan José Cánovas, in one of his first institutional contacts.

The source is in the protected environment of the church of Santiago, declared a Site of Cultural Interest.

The report of the Historical Heritage Service concluded that "the intervention envisaged in the reference property did not endanger the integrity of the temple and did not alter its contemplation".

In addition, the current architectural and landscape features in the area of intervention of the project are "degrading to the monument", assuming the rehabilitation of the source and its immediate surroundings an improvement of the same, as they collect the technical reports of the Service of Historical Heritage of the Autonomous Community.

The Plenary of Totana agreed in September 2016, unanimously, at the proposal of the Councilor for Historical Heritage, Inmaculada Blázquez, ask the Ministry of Culture and Spokesperson the total subsidy of the cost of rehabilitation works of the source and its environment, given its state of deterioration.

This baroque monument was built in the 18th century and is located as part of an urban ensemble of great artistic and cultural value.

For a while now, signs of an advanced degenerative state have been observed in the monument, with evident aesthetic degradation and problems of water flow.

This is the work of totanero Silvestre Martínez Teruel, and is part of an urban group of great artistic and cultural value that also served for the supply of drinking water for the population.

This is an iconic reference element for Totana that was designed by totanero Silvestre Martínez Teruel, a versatile character of his time who is attributed other important works in the municipality.
