The mayor of Totana, Juan José Cánovas, has raised a motion to the regular ordinary in February to name the popularly known "Rotonda de los Franceses" as the "Plaza de los Voluntarios de Protección Civil" in this locality, in recognition of the disinterested work, Altruistic and humanitarian in favor of security and well-being in this municipality.
The Association of Volunteers of Civil Protection was created in 1986 sponsored by a group of neighbors, being approved its regulation in the month of September of that same year, thus complying with the guidelines of the Autonomous Community for the implementation of these groups.

And by virtue of subsequent collaboration agreements in the last thirty years, the promotion of volunteering is encouraged, making it possible to organize the Group through services such as forest monitoring in Sierra Espuña and support to the local fire station.
The Municipal Civil Protection Service was constituted as such in 2003 with the objective of adapting it to the structural and social changes of the municipality, and to the citizen demand for more and better services, conforming as one of the basic citizen services in this population.
