Totana has been incorporated, in fact, the Association for Rural Development "Campodos", which will benefit from all actions and actions contained in its local development strategy for the next six years.
The first deputy mayor, Andrés García, Councillor for Economic Development, Antonia Camacho, and the manager of "Campodos" Miguel Buendia realized what it means for this municipality adherence to this non-profit organization that brings together 26 entities, of which eight are public entities, and a population of 109,500 inhabitants of that territory.
The Plenum of the municipal corporation and approved at its regular meeting May unanimously institutional incorporation of this association has been working for 16 years in favor of integral and sustainable development of their territories.
"Campodos" promotes conservation, improvement and restoration of the environment, conservation and promotion of the resources of the area, improving infrastructure and services, promoting business sector, employment promotion and tourism and conservation heritage.
It also advocates promoting the identity of its territorial scope and, ultimately, improving the quality and living conditions of the inhabitants of their territories, which has been progressively expanded significantly in recent years.
The association has carried out actions within the framework of development plans "Leader Plus Community Initiative 2000/2006" and "Territorial Rural Development Plan 2007/2013 Leader approach", which in total have supported more than 170 projects which they have received grants totaling more than 7 million euros.
The local action group "Campodos" is working, so, for years with the "Leader" methodology applied to rural development, the EU launched to encourage original strategies for sustainable development and quality.
These have been aimed at the enhancement of natural and cultural heritage, improving employment and quality of organization of rural communities;
and above all, attention to groups most disadvantaged population and promoting equal opportunities in the rural areas.
"Leader" is characterized by its participatory physiognomy, and that is why, so the local action group "Campodos" is already working on a strategy of local development for the next six years, which is being drafted and planning and programming framework which will be the years 2014-2020.
Also, through the various development plans framed in "Leader", he has worked to convert the population of a territory in true protagonist of its development organized through local action groups, as is the case of "Campodos" .
In this framework has promoted economic diversification of agricultural activity, protection of natural and environmental resources, the momentum of improving infrastructure and services in rural areas;
and it has encouraged the development of the economic fabric to the promotion of SMEs, and carrying out projects for cooperation and exchange of experiences.
In this partnership they are included throughout the territory of the municipalities of Fuente Alamo and Puerto Lumbreras;
and part of the terms of Ãguilas, Murcia, Mazarrón, Cartagena, Lorca and Totana now.
