| The initiative is carried out in the vicinity of the Caravaning La Manga campsite to improve the conservation of the ecosystem | The works are carried out under the supervision of an archaeologist authorized by the Community, given the proximity of the archaeological site of 'El Castillico' The Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and the Environment, through the General Directorate of the Mar Menor, has begun the work to remove 18 boats, in different states of deterioration and abandonment, located in the vicinity of the beach of the Caravaning La Manga camping.
The boats are stranded on the beach, semi-buried or stranded very close to the shore, while scattered remains of other boats are observed as a result of the strong weather events that have affected the Mar Menor in the last year. The general director of the Mar Menor, Miriam Pérez, visited the place today and stressed that "the objective is to free the bathing area and prevent its remains from dispersing throughout the area causing possible contamination of the coastal and marine environment of the Mar Menor" . The works have been carried out in coordination with the Maritime Captaincy and the Cartagena City Council, under the supervision of an archaeologist authorized by the General Directorate of Cultural Assets, given the proximity of the archaeological site of 'El Castillico', as well as an archaeologist hired by the General Directorate of the Mar Menor. This initiative is part of the emergency work for the removal of plant biomass and debris from the Mar Menor carried out by the regional government.
The boats that have registration will be transferred to a municipal deposit provided by the City of Cartagena.
