The regional government has created the Strategic Plan for the Recovery of Industrial Activity (PERAI_20) to alleviate the effects of the coronavirus health crisis on the region's industry.

This plan was created with the aim of promoting the reactivation of the industrial sector based on different recovery strategies.

The Minister for Business, Industry and Spokespersons, Ana Martínez Vidal, explained that "this plan will last for one year and aims to alleviate the negative effects that this crisis has generated in the industrial sector.

But I insist, in the economic recovery we cannot be alone, we need the support of the Government of Spain and the European Union to be able to get out of this crisis together ”.

Among the objectives of the plan are the reduction of uncertainty in the industrial sector, the establishment of strategic axes for recovery and the coordination and cooperation between the Administration and companies, all to promote the measures that are necessary for recovery arrive as soon as possible in the Region.

The PERAI_20 will be developed in three phases, a first one of strategic analysis "in which it will seek to anticipate the situation in which we may find ourselves when this state of alarm ends," explained the counselor.

The second phase, within the framework of the Regional Industry Advisory Council (CARI), will establish the axes and recovery measures to advance the recovery of industrial activity in the Region.

The third phase will contemplate the monitoring and control of the measures adopted and their effects on the industrial sector and on the regional economy as a whole, their results in order, where appropriate, to determine new corrective measures.

Martínez Vidal remarked that "the PERAI does not need an economic endowment, it is a document that will contain measures that seek to advance the recovery of activity anticipating the situation that this health crisis will leave in the industrial sector of the Region".

In turn, as an additional objective of the plan, it will seek to strengthen the weaknesses of the sector and establish protocols that allow us to have greater response capacity in the event of a crisis of similar characteristics.

"It is a very necessary project, so that companies and the Administration have a common horizon that guarantees the competitiveness of the industrial sector of our Region", concluded Martínez Vidal.

The industrial sector in the Region

The industrial sector accounts for approximately 20 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the Region of Murcia, 2.4 percent more than the national average.

It highlights the agri-food sector, the meat, energy, metallurgy, metal product manufacturing, the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, the production of rubber and plastics, the textile, leather and footwear sector, the repair and installation of machinery and the manufacture of furniture.
