Cine Velasco has announced the launch date of their VOSE movie project with the first movie being confirmed as the Sam Mendes epic 1917. The movie has won two Golden Globes for Best Motion Picture-Drama and Best Director. The film is a war film directed, co-written and produced by Sam Mendes (who also directed Skyfall). The film stars George MacKay, Dean-Charles Chapman, Mark Strong, Andrew Scott, Claire Duburcq, Colin Firth and Benedict Cumberbatch. The film is based in part on an account told to Sam Mendes by his paternal grandfather, Alfred Mendes. It chronicles the story of two young British soldiers during World War 1 in the spring of 1917 who were given a mission to deliver a message. It warns of an ambush during a skirmish soon after the German retreat to the Hindenburg Line during Operation Alberich.
The movie is the first in what is seen to be a major attraction to the surrounding English speaking communities and has been welcomed by many local restaurants as an opportunity to attract business from this initiative.
