Totana's Town Council is to join the global initiative called “Earth Hour” to remind society about the important role they have in the fight active against climate change.

So announced the Local Minister of the Environment, Trini Cayuela, who said that the 'turning off' will be done this Saturday 28th March from 20:30 to 21:30 when all the lights of monuments, businesses and homes in more then one thousand cities all over the world will go off, “to raise awareness of the problem and highlight the importance of our participation in the conservation of the planet and in the resolution of the environmental problems.”.

Earth Hour 2009 is a global initiative from the WWF (one of the largest independent international organisations dedicated to the conservation of Nature)

The Local Minister has underlined that Totana has joined this initiative and will turn off the lights for Earth Hour, of the monuments with exterior lighting: the Town Hall, Santiago Church, the Chapels 'Milagrosa' and Corazón de Jesús.

The initiative is open and is made up of the disconnection of electricity consumption in houses, public and private businesses and installations and public equipment during this period of time.

In the same way the Local Minister highlighted the importance of this initiative with the aim of raising citizen awareness of their possible adhesion to this initiative, inviting them “as far as they can, to turn off the exterior and interior lights of their businesses and homes for this hour”.
