THE TOWN COUNCIL RECEIVES A SUBSIDY OF 75,000 EUROS FOR THE CONVERSION TO TERRESTRIAL DIGITAL TELEVISION (TDT) WITH THE AIM OF CARRYING OUT A SERIES OF ACTIONS TO MAKE THE “ANALOGUE TURN OFF” EASIER

Totana's Town Council has received a subsidy of 75,000 euros from the Regional Ministry of Economy and the Inland Revenue, aimed at facilitating the municipality's conversion to Terrestrial Digital Television (TDT), announced the Local Minister of New Technologies, Juan Carrión.

This subsidy has been given so that they can carry out a series of actions aimed at making the so-called “analogue turn off” easier, which consists of, from 2nd April 2010, the channels which can currently be received in analogue (with conventional television) will stop being received and people will need TDT receptors to be able to see said digital broadcasts.

The concession of this subsidy aims to deal with three areas of action. Firstly the cover of TDT, which tries to achieve the widest cover possible in the municipality, trying to make it have, at least, the same cover which analogue television currently has.

Secondly, its about the connection to TDT, where necessary measures will be introduced to assure the good running of the reception of TDT in all municipal institutions; and thirdly, raising citizen awareness of TDT. As such they have planned ways to promote the migration of citizens so that they adapt their televisions to avoid problems when they turn analogue off, as well as ways to bring the said technology to all the different groups in society, so that nobody is excluded.

The Local Minister of New Technologies has emphasized the importance of the transition, as “it will dramatically change the way in which we use television, being able to enjoy more channels than those which are offered on analogue as well as being able to do processes through the television, if they have interactive TDT receptors”.

To carry out all the planned actions properly they have created a bilateral committee made up of technicians from the Regional Department of Information Society and the Town Council, “with the aim that there is a continuous stream facilitating the indicated tasks afterwards given the transcendence and complexity of the project”.
