The Mayor of Totana, José Martínez Andreo, has requested through a letter to Secretary of State for Finance and Budget of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Carlos Ocaña, a meeting which will ask the National Government negotiation historic debt that the state has with the town of Totana over ten years.
The mayor explained that due to the increasing population of the municipality, estimated at more than 20 percent, the Consistory not receive the percentage of state income taxpayers who are currently registered in the municipality and the City Council takes all resources available to municipalities, thus defraying some expenses which you receive no income.
Martínez Andreo recalled that in the plenary session on October 29 for the first time in the history of democracy in the consistory, it was agreed unanimously by all political groups of this debt negotiation is not contemplated in the distribution of State taxes.
In addition, as indicated by Martínez Andreo, the Government is expected to accelerate the implementation of the Municipal Finance Act, as now, the City of Totana, like hundreds of Consistories throughout the country, maintain a situation economic difficulties arising inter alia by the economic crisis and maintenance expenses are not under municipal jurisdiction and are being funded by the Consistory.
Also, the mayor has offered the assistance of the council with the Treasury Department to put together initiatives that contribute to the development of the town of Totana and improving the lives of its citizens.
