The councilman of Social Welfare, Juan Carrion Tudela, technical and Drug Addiction Prevention, Lucía Gallego, presented the psychosocial rehabilitation programs for criminal offenders in the home which aims to promote skills and values alternative to aggression and attitudes positive relationship with people who are doing work for the benefit of the community as a non-custodial sentence alternative to prison.

This program is aimed at those offenders who have committed acts of violence against others, usually in the home, and are doing the work program for the benefit of the Community, for the performance-by locals-in judicial, consisting of work for the benefit of the community, through its incorporation into a given resource or municipal service.

This project was the collaboration agreement between the Autonomous Agency for Prison Labor and Employment and the city of Totana to promote compliance with these measures involving the infringing conduct by the people of unpaid work in the public interest for the Benefit of the Community and required to attend and participate in a Psychosocial Rehabilitation Program for offenders, since most of the sanctions is caused by crimes of gender violence and / or domestic.

In this regard, the mayor reported that to date have been 16 people that have developed such legal action performing tasks of public and community such as painting public facilities, cleanliness of facilities and counseling duties in municipal services and There are currently a total of 6 people doing the psychosocial rehabilitation programs for criminal offenders in the home.

This program, which launches, educational, therapeutic and rehabilitative treatment, will have two levels of action, first as a group, through eight sessions of one hour and a half hours on a weekly basis, and then individually, which will be developed according to the times set by the intervention team.

Program content covers various topics such as the assumption of responsibility, recognition of feelings, expression and their management, as well as the offending person providing resources, strategies and personal skills and social alternatives to aggression.

Finally, the abuser will empathize with the victim, through the understanding of the feelings of others.

In this way, and once the program if behavior problems persist, mainly results from the case to other specialized resources such as the Family and Violence Prevention program and social support services, among others.

Finally, keep a strict control and monitoring of both the support shown by those perpetrators and incidents that may happen and the end of the course will conduct a comprehensive assessment.

The council has welcomed the launch of this initiative, focusing on the positive nature of it to mean "not only an alternative measure to imprisonment but a complementary deployment of social resources towards the social and emotional reintegration these people. "
