The Mayor of Totana, José Martínez Andreo, and representatives of the three local political groups have met to discuss the financial position of the City Council and municipal debt, among other things, in the course of the Special Committee Auditors, who had asked precisely the PSOE and IU groups.

The economic and financial situation of the Town Council could not be analyzed on the Board of Spokesmen convened this week by the refusal of opposition groups, but ultimately the mayor and council of Finance, Bartholomew Pallares, have reported the settlement of exercises budget for the years 2007 and 2008, the statement of income and debt in the short and long term.

The municipal government leaders have submitted technical reports of municipal services and Treasury intervention to opposition groups, which put a real debt of around 50 million euros, not the 80 that had pinned the representatives of the groups of the opposition, among other issues.

Of this debt, explained the mayor, 30 million euros related to financial debt with banks and the remaining 20 suppliers.

Martínez Andreo said the economic situation of the city council is "complicated" for the debt that has been dragging the last legislature, but has proven that it is not "disastrous" or different from other local governments as they came claiming political groups the opposition and urged the PSOE and IU not to use this tool as a political tool to scare the workers and suppliers.

The mayor said that this committee has helped explain the three political groups "of real and transparent manner" of the situation in which there are to date the municipal treasury and accounting for revenue projections, which obviously have decreased by different reasons, just as they have been cut by 1.5 million current expenditure and € 700,000 personal spending over the previous year.

City Councilman explained to the representatives of the three political groups that will deal with the situation found in the coffers of the Consistory to the execution of partial plans, which are four in progress, and raising the sale of land for the construction of new housing in the municipality.

Also, Martínez Andreo battery introduced 50 measures to be carried out in the town to revive the economy, among which are: the promotion of social residences, the promotion of cooperative enterprise, support for young entrepreneurs and Industrial Revitalisation plans and Tourism.

The mayor also reported the political groups that will invest 20 million euros in public works for a dozen projects to help mitigate the effects of economic crisis in sectors such as construction and so help create jobs.
