The users of the Day Centre for Persons with Mental Illness Totana represented the play "The moon Ithaca" as closing event of the year 2014/2015 in the Socio-Cultural Center "Jail" in collaboration with a group of students 1st International Baccalaureate IES "Juan de la Cierva" of the town.
The ceremony was attended by the director general of Persons with Disabilities of IMAS, Ana Guijarro, Councillor for Social Welfare and Disability, Javier Baths, and the mayor of Seniors, Antonia Camacho, who enjoyed the novelties prepared by professionals and students to this event farewell end of course.
During the event images of some of the special activities in the Day Centre during the course and proceeded to the awarding of diplomas by regional and municipal authorities were viewed.
Today, the day center for people with mental health serves 22 people, including 19 public square and 3 municipal plaza, developing its activity through basic services and programs of action;
and is open from 8:30 to 16:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
Among the services provided are those of assistance to everyday life and living-dining room, as well as other therapeutic character and intervention programs, such as psychosocial support, health and safety, social skills, self-care, communication, motor skills and development physical, occupational, pre-employment training, counseling families and community use.
Self-esteem workshops and personal development, cognitive stimulation, press shop, information, education for health, relaxation, occupational and physical activity, scheduled departures, basic training, social program, individual attention and tutoring and family care are also performed, among others .
Totana Town Council is a regional leader in the care of people with mental disorders and the recognition of the need for these structures have community integration.
This specialized care began in 2002, with the collaboration between the municipality and the Association of Relatives of the Mentally Ill.
In 2005 the first municipal resource was created by the Municipal Service Psychosocial Support to People With Mental Health, which runs until 2013 to promote psychosocial rehabilitation and integration of these patients.
Back in September 2013, under the collaboration agreement with the Instituto Murciano Social Care (IMAS) and the City of Totana, said municipal service becomes a day center for people with mental illness in a situation of dependency.
