Reduces the problems of school failure and truancy in the city

Eight volunteer students from the University of Murcia (UMU) involved since early this month in educational support project sponsored by the Department of Youth and Education, held outside school hours and through which actions are taken to prevent and reduce failure problems, absenteeism and dropout are given in Totana, aimed at children and young people in primary education.

These socio collaboration agreements, signed by the Mayor of Totana, María Isabel Sánchez, in the presence of Councillor for Youth Bartholomew Pallares are to improve, especially in contexts of learning sociocultural disadvantage.

At the agreement signing ceremony was attended by eight university students at the end of the course will receive a certificate attesting to the hours of voluntary action and the corresponding college credit.

It is providing educational support to forty students who are studying between 3rd and 6th Primary and each university gives educational support to a total of five students.

The mayor and Councilman Young, who personally congratulated the students participating in this project, explained that the goal is to make a complementary intervention to the school, from a conception of coordinated work between the different social actors involved in the educational process of children and young people who will run this project.

With this initiative, Sánchez Ruiz, "is directly helping children in situations of sociocultural disadvantage and social exclusion, so it has a commendable merit for the six students participating in this initiative."

The councilor commended the municipal officers of both councils and more college students encouraged to participate in this program in order to broaden the participation of more students participating.

Altogether involves eight schools: Schools La Cruz, San Jose, Reina Sofia, Luis Perez Rueda, Tierno Galván, Santa Eulalia, and Guadalentin Deitania.
