Resolution of August 6, 2013, of the Directorate General of Cultural Heritage, by declaring well cataloged by its cultural relevance Black Cave archaeological site in Totana (Murcia).

The General Directorate of Cultural Heritage, by Resolution of January 17, 2012, initiated proceedings for a declaration of well cataloged by its cultural relevance for the Black Cave archaeological site in Totana (Murcia), published in the Official Bulletin of the Region of Murcia number 20 of January 25, 2012, and notified to the city of Totana and stakeholders.

According to Law 4/2007, of March 16, Cultural Heritage of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, have completed mandatory procedures for public information (BORM number 141 of June 20, 2013) to all persons or entities concerned, for a period of 20 working days, they could make the allegations they deemed appropriate.

Subsequently granted to the City Council hearing process and stakeholders.

During this process has not submitted any written statement by the stakeholders in the process.

Consequently, after the instruction of the procedure and considering the provisions of article 22 and following of Law 4/2007, and by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Decree of the Council of Government of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia 145 / 2011, of July 8, by establishing the Governing Bodies of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Resolve:

1) Declare well cataloged by its cultural relevance Black Cave archaeological site in Totana (Murcia), according to description, delimitation of the affected area and protection criteria contained in Annexes I and II attached to this Resolution and all documentation contained in your file.

2) Any of the archaeological activities as referred to in Article 55 of Law 4/2007 to take place in the area, whose statements are sought, must be authorized in advance by the Directorate General as provided in Article 56 of the Law 4/2007.

3) The owners of the land affected by the declaration shall keep, preserve and protect the property, ensuring its integrity and avoiding their destruction or deterioration, as provided in Article 8, paragraph 2 of Law 4/2007.

In accordance with the provisions of article 26 of Law 4/2007, this Resolution shall be notified to the parties and the city of Totana, and published in the Official Bulletin of the Region of Murcia.

Annex I

1.

Location

Black Cave is located on the upper slope, on the southern slope of a relief close to Redondo Red Pepper, in the south of Sierra Espuna, defined on the west by the Sisquilla Rambla.

The southern half of the archaeological area is characterized by a dense growth of shrub and tree type, while the alternating northern bush type vegetation with rocky surface outcrop.

It lies 3.8 km of the center town of Aledo.

Description and values

Habitat defined prehistoric cave in 1998 under the archaeological survey project in the field of Espuna saw.

The discovery of ceramic materials in the vicinity of the cavity allowed ascribe the possible use of it at some unspecified time in the Prehistory, possibly during the Chalcolithic.

The cave is located on a rocky cliff 750 meters above sea level, facing west, has great size, consisting of a large central area of ​​16.50 m wide, 10 m high and 9 m depth, within which open three cavities.

The cavity 1, is defined in the west of the cave, with dimensions of 6.70 m wide, 4.60 m high and 5.20 m deep.

The number 2 is the smaller and is located in the central area, with 2.70 m wide, 1.70 m high and 2.20 m deep.

Finally, the cavity 3, in the east, noted for its great depth, 16.20 m, and its height and width of 3.30 m and 3.80 m respectively.

Except for the whole cave cavity 3 has a thick layer of sediment likely to contain archaeological deposit.

Near the entrance of the cave, in outer space is located close to a wall of masonry 8.10 m long, 1 m thick and 0.50 m elevation, made with large stones driven into the ground , possibly related to the use of the cavity and fold in modern times.

Registration material associated with their occupation consists of fragments of pottery by hand, oxidizing and degreasing baking limestone and fragments around, all found in the immediate area of ​​the cavity side.

The cave has a large surface area so that, together with its strategic position, from which features direct visual control with the Sisquilla Rambla with the possibilities of use of hunting resources in the environment, make this place a site optimal habitat during prehistory.

Depending on the nature of the archaeological, stratigraphic contexts associates and topographical relations has been established comprising archaeological cave, the top of the cliff, the cliff itself and the upper rocky hillside.

Protection criteria

The purpose of cataloging the Black Cave archaeological site is to protect and conserve the archaeological heritage existing in that area.

In the archaeological area do not allow the search, collection or removal of archaeological materials, and the use of metal detectors or dumping of solid waste, unless authorized by the Directorate General with responsibility for cultural heritage.

In the archaeological area Current land use is compatible with the conservation of the site, but any action that involves the removal of the ground in undisturbed areas or dimensions, and report must have permission of the Directorate General with responsibility for cultural heritage .

All these actions require precise definition of its scope and should be framed in an intervention project that enables the preservation of heritage.

This activity, which must be authorized by the Department, may be subject to the results of previous archaeological intervention in all cases addressed by one or more archaeologists authorized by the Department, to determine the existence and characterization of the remains sites.

This intervention, if any, will consist of one or more of the activities referred to in Article 55 of Law 4/2007.
