The Region of Murcia held a program of activities to mark the European Day of Crafts 2013, an event that takes place simultaneously in various countries of the continent between 5 and 7 April, and that's priority is to put in the potential value of the craft sector in the region and increasing knowledge among the population, municipal sources said in a statement.

The CEO of Craft, Maria Dolores Alarcón, and the Mayor of Totana, Isabel Maria Sanchez, in her capacity as president of the Spanish Association of Cities of Ceramics (AECC), yesterday presented this initiative and inaugurated the exhibition which takes place in Regional Center of Crafts pottery company Totana.

The exhibition includes large jars decorated and painted totaneras typical with typical regional dress petticoats of Murcia, on the occasion of the celebration of the traditional Spring Festival in the capital of the Segura.

The event was attended by the Councillor of Popular Culture, Alfonso Cayuela, and the president of the Association of Artisans of Totana, Rosa Maria Sainz.

The Ministry joins this national celebration that promotes the Spanish Foundation for Innovation of Crafts (Fundesarte) and has prepared a schedule of events for the occasion in collaboration with craftsmen associations and federations, councils, training centers and agents social.

The holding of this conference in addition to other measures to support the artisanal sector launched in recent years by the region to strengthen the social recognition and competitiveness of this activity, and strengthen its links with tourism.

The craft is a productive sector of growing importance in Andalucía to be a powerful generator of employment, have a high ethnological value, having a strong hold in the history and culture of each of the territories, and to cooperate in other economic sectors , specially with tourism.

Murcia is one of the regions with the highest number of craft workshops to represent about 10 percent of the national total.
