The Department of Environment and Social Welfare have filed a joint motion to be debated in plenary on Thursday 30 December, for the establishment of a cooperation agreement with the Partnership Project Abraham to regulate and implement collection systems selective urban waste textile, footwear and toys and activities develop social support and advocacy aimed at people at social risk.
In this sense, the councilman of Social Welfare, Juan Carrion, said the textile, footwear and toys are present in the European Waste to be managed sustainably, and that his long period of biodegradation and since the non-renewable materials, representing 4 percent of urban waste.
Therefore, reported that in the past 6 years, the Partnership Project Abraham, which is authorized and responsible for the management of this waste has collected more than 6 million kilos of them (15 percent of the total) to avoid ending up in landfills and managing them in order to be reused and recovered as by-products through various measures of social economy.
Through these actions of social economy, Carrion said to be carried out training programs and targeted socio-occupational groups at risk, humanitarian donations consisting of the waste for reuse in developing countries, clothing donations to people in need and sale of textile reclaimers companies that handle the separation and classification of waste for reuse or generation of products for other industries, among others.
