The Community of Irrigators and municipal authorities of Totana urge the citizens of this municipality, as well as the business and social fabric, to mobilize to participate in the demonstration on March 7 in Madrid for the serious and persistent drought situation and in the absence of effective measures and agreements that should have been adopted by the Administration.
The comuneros, irrigators, cooperatives, companies and agricultural marketers Guadalentín Valley want to paralyze their activity next Wednesday to attend all the demonstration to be held that day in the capital of Spain, as agreed last night at a meeting held at the headquarters of the the Community of Irrigators of Totana.
In a press conference, the president of the Community of Irrigators of Totana, Felipe Andreo, accompanied by members of its Board of Directors and representatives of the different municipal political groups represented in the City Council, have given an account of the agreements adopted at that meeting Thursday night in relation to support for the demonstration called by the Water Circle and the Central Union of Irrigators.
This is in addition to the call of the Central Union of Irrigators of the Transfer (Scrats) so that the whole Murcian field makes a general strike that day.
The convening entities are the Community of Irrigators of the Tajo-Segura de Totana Transfer;
the City Council of Totana;
the agrarian unions UPA, COAG and ASAJA;
the agricultural cooperatives, CEBAG;
agricultural and related companies in the sector;
association of merchants and political parties (PSOE, PP and IU).
"The Levante without water, desert and unemployment" is the message that the Levantine Circle for Water is spreading to encourage all farmers and citizens of the Region of Murcia, Almeria and Alicante, to attend the summons called.
In this protest, water will be reclaimed and final solutions will be demanded for the structural drought of the Segura Basin.
The main motto of the actions is the same that has led the mobilizations carried out so far in Murcia and the Torrevieja Alicante desalination plant: 'Defend the garden of Europe'.
This banner will open the demonstration that will begin at the Puerta de Alcalá and end at the gates of the Ministry of Agriculture, in the Plaza de Atocha.
Between both points it will go towards Plaza de Cibeles and Paseo del Prado.
Previously, the organizers have planned to place a stand in the Plaza Callao in Madrid to distribute fruit and vegetable products in the area free of charge and give more visibility to their problems.
Free buses will be chartered from each community of irrigators of the three provinces conveners, so that the Community of Irrigators of Totana will put free buses to facilitate the attendance of all those who wish them, who will leave at 4:45 am of the urbanization "La Báscula" of Totana, as explained by its president.
