The Neighborhood Platform "Plaza del pueblo" has launched a campaign of collection of signatures in Change.org asking that the Romería of ascent to the Santa of Totana is the first Saturday after Kings so that more people can participate, as it happened yesterday.
And although the January 7 is a local holiday, many totaneros and totaneras work outside of Totana and when the pilgrimage falls weekday they can not participate.
Likewise, many devotees of Santa Eulalia of other localities also can not participate when being workable in their respective localities.
"We must take care of our traditional customs, as the pilgrimage to the Santa of our patron saint Santa Eulalia should be taken care of", stand out from the Platform.
"Both the devotion and the fevor towards Santa Eulalia de Merida is not only the heritage of Totana. No doubt, the social and labor circumstances have changed and evolved in this time. Many totaneros share the idea of that modification of the pilgrimage of return" , They add.
"Therefore, we will continue our work with the proposal of this change through the neighborhood platform 'Plaza del pueblo', taking advantage of yesterday as a historical reference in terms of participation and development of the pilgrimage."
"It is a duty of citizens, to build a society in the forefront of the times, without losing the fragrance and the genetic load of the people," concludes the petition.
