The works council of the factory "El Pozo Food" will submit shortly to see the proposal on the next working Totana Town Council to launch a public transport for more than 550 employees working in the meat industry , based in the nearby town of Alhama de Murcia.
The mayor, Juan José Canovas, accompanied by the Councillor for Employment, Antonia Camacho, have recently met with the Director of Human Resources of the company, Manuel Garcia Juesas, and the president and secretary of the Works Council in order to assess the steps to realize such a measure.
The public transport network is to ensure the safety and comfort of workers commuting in shifts into and out of the factory, solving the parking problems that exist in the vicinity of the factory, encourage decongestion of traffic and promote reduction carbon footprint.
The approach to be transferred to the council is a consultation to assess the conditions of transport, concrete with passenger transport companies and even negotiate with the Directorate General for Transport a specific line.
The measure is conditional on the degree of acceptance that has by workers, while other issues such as the cost of the trip, which would be borne by employees were also assessed, and the circumstances of the production work in different shifts.
Municipal officials have already held several meetings in the past year in order to shape this measure, which would be realized as a pilot and later even move it to other municipalities in Murcia where company employees live.
Both the municipal government as responsible for the meat company have been working on the study of this measure since last summer which must now be studied by those affected.
The municipality would enable various collection points with parking spaces included, in coordination with the company to be responsible for providing the service.
At present, the company has two or even three shifts in some sections and seasons of the year.
The consistory wants to finalize the agreement with the works council and the Department of Human Resources, in collaboration with transport companies of Totana, to give effect to the transfer of workers.
Totana is the second municipality in the region to contribute labor to the factory of meat products "ElPozo Food".
The mayor has valued very positively the degree of acceptance that the proposal had the representatives of the committee and reiterated the commitment and willingness of the company to implement mechanisms that favor the working conditions of the employees of this important industry.
