Within the work they perform for the competition "Euroscola" dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Spain in the EU

Several students of ESO College "La Milagrosa" from Totana recently interviewed the mayor of Totana, Juan José Canovas, in the work they are doing for the XXII Contest "Euroscola" dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Spain in the EU Europe (1986-2016).

The Information Office of the European Parliament in Spain, in collaboration with the Representation in Spain of the European Commission and the Secretary of State for the European Union (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation) are responsible for convening this contest.

The objective of this initiative is to give pause to participating students forthe transformation of Spain from its integration into the European Union in 1986;

promoverel critical thinking, assess the achievements and analyze the challenges and challenges for the future.

The competition is the development of a blog by participating teams present their work / projects on the 30 years of Spain in the EU.

The mayor has answered for a long period of time to questions from the students both personally and politically, and from his experience as a citizen and public official from the entrance of Spain in the EU.

Juan Jose Canovas has referred to the positive aspects of integration, the current situation and the future of the European institutions and has analyzed the implications, advantages and disadvantages, which was receiving assistance from the Cohesion Fund and the introduction of euro as the single currency.

In addition, he noted that "the large common area is a unique opportunity, if we reduce the weight and influence of markets and move into social, labor and civil rights and human rights as a common goal."

The mayor has argued that Parliament and European political institutions have legislative power, unify legislation on the bright side, promote solidarity and cooperation with Arab countries, Africa and South America or disadvantaged countries, and to counterbalance positive influence of the United States or China into the world economy.

The contest was developed through an educational interactive platform and aims to promote the use of internet and new technologies as educational tools, bringing the EU closer to young people, improving their knowledge and involving them in the construction of Europe and encourage learning European languages;

essential to achieve a united Europe.

The ten winners of the competition in Spanish / Catalan and the top five ranked teams will receive English as a reward participation in the Euroscola Programme of the European Parliament's headquarters in Strasbourg (France) and financial assistance to cover part of the travel costs .

This aid is set according to the distance between the city where the center is located and the city of Strasbourg.

In addition, an iPad will be drawn among all teachers to complete the final phase of Euroscola.
