To participate in the challenge of the glass recycling promotion campaign

The regional campaign "Encesta glass, we all win", in which the municipality of Totana will participate, will distribute a total of five containers in the form of a basketball in the most central areas of the city.

The Councilors for the Environment, Pedro Jos Snchez, and Sports, Agustn Gonzalo Martez, have presented this initiative in regard to the municipality of Totana in order to raise awareness of the need to mobilize in the face of this “challenge”.

The campaign, which was also presented last Monday in Murcia, aims to promote the recycling of glass through sport, for this it relates healthy living habits with other healthy habits for our planet, such as glass recycling.

It involves Ecovidrio, the Autonomous Community, the Basketball Federation of the Region of Murcia and the twelve most populous municipalities in the Region, including that of Totana.

The campaign consists of the distribution of five original igloos in the form of a basketball, on a rotating basis, in the most central areas of three municipalities each week, and with which it is intended to associate the sport of basketball with the recycling of glass containers and the care of the planet, increasing the amount of glass that is deposited in said containers.

The igloo-shaped containers will be placed from November 18 to 24 in five key points of the urban area of ​​Totana: Glorieta del Convento, Mallorca street, Santomera street, Garden of the Socio-Cultural Center "La Crcel" and Balsa Vieja-Constitucin squares.

At the end of the campaign, the municipality that has collected more glass containers in these particular igloos and has better disseminated the campaign will be rewarded with the reform of one of its municipal tracks with recycled glass material, so that it will become the first of These characteristics will be in the Region.

As they explained, the participating municipalities will earn points for the kilos of recycled glass and for the dissemination of the campaign to promote recycling.

As the final touch of the campaign and once the works of the winning track are finished, in December the presentation of the awarded municipality will be carried out, as well as the renovated track with recycled glass containers.

This campaign begins in the city of Murcia and during the next weeks it will be extended to the municipalities of Cartagena, Lorca, Molina de Segura, Alcantarilla, Torre Pacheco, Águilas, Cieza, Yecla, San Javier, Totana and Mazarrn.

The selective collection of glass container waste through the green container reached 25,366 tons in the Region of Murcia in 2018. The Region of Murcia has a total of 7,233 containers installed, so there is one container for every 204 inhabitants.

Additionally, Ecovidrio manages the recycling of 923 tons of glass container waste from Urban Waste plants.
