The mayor, Juan José Cánovas, accompanied by the Councilor for Citizen Security and Emergencies, Agustín Gonzalo Martínez, congratulated and thanked, on behalf of the Municipal Corporation, the members of the municipal security and emergency services and the cleaning brigades and Maintenance of the Department of Infrastructure its collaboration and involvement to mitigate the magnitude of the episode of torrential rains.
Although the consequences and material damages of the storm that occurred last week in the Region of Murcia fortunately did not have the same effects in Totana as in other areas of the autonomous community, the municipal authorities have wanted to recognize the public service work carried out during these days, which has helped to avoid more incidents.
The municipal officials have appeared publicly to take stock and account for the final emergency device deployed since Friday and until the weekend in this municipality and those of Santomera and Los Alcázares, where Civil Protection volunteers were required to help in the population evacuation and infrastructure drainage after flooding.
The head of the Civil Protection Association, José María Sánchez, the local police sergeant, José Carrasco, the municipal Civil Protection technician, Andrés Martín Gómez, representatives of the Totana Youth Platform and Civil Protection volunteers, who helped in the relief work as a volunteer.
In addition, they explained the actions undertaken during this time within the framework of the emergency device and reviewed the incidents produced in different parts of the municipal territory;
while acknowledging that the follow-up of the recommendations by the population to calls in official communication channels has prevented major evils.
Finally, they thanked the social media for their informative work and the population in general for taking extreme precautions, except in very isolated cases, and responding to the preventive demands during those days.
