Several vehicles of Civil Protection of Totana, among them the Unit of Command of this Group, serve this afternoon in the operation of evacuation of citizens in Santomera.
Several volunteers have helped, urgently and in solidarity, to the withdrawal of residents from the Síscar district in order to enable the controlled disembarkation of the Santomera dam by the Segura Hydrographic Confederation to avoid major material damage in area.
The volunteers have collaborated in the evacuation of almost a thousand neighbors (basically older or disabled) from their homes to the base camp where they have been transferred by buses from the Region of Murcia to safer places.
A team of volunteers from the Civil Protection Association in Totana moved urgently late in the morning to the municipality of Santomera to collaborate in the evacuation of neighbors before the presumable overflow of the dam in this municipality after the storm that plagues the region of Murcia since yesterday.
The request for immediate help came from the General Directorate of Emergencies to those Civil Protection groups whose municipalities have had a situation of greater tranquility or where the devastating effects of others in the autonomous community have not been suffered, as it has been the case of Totana.
Four volunteers have traveled in two vehicles, equipped with the relevant public address and logistics equipment, to assist in the evacuation of the population in this municipality of Murcia. At this time they are still there providing logistical support to the displaced, together with the Civil Protection Association of Santomera and others that also collaborate.
In any case, more than a dozen volunteers still continue their preventive and surveillance work in the municipality of Totana until this weekend that definitively remits the situation in this term.
